Trash Collection & Recycling

The City of Onamia has contracted with Jim’s Mille Lacs Disposal for all trash collection within the city limits. This includes household and business trash, recycling, and demolition or construction debris.

Each home is supplied with a large roller can and a recycling bin. Residents pay for trash pick-up as they use the service by purchasing trash tags or trash bags. Residential trash is picked up weekly on Wednesdays. Trash tags or bags can be purchased at Gateway Station, Agnew Hardware Hank or by calling Jim’s Mille Lacs Disposal at (320) 983-6474.

Recycling pick up is on Tuesdays (effective January 1, 2020). There is no fee for this service.

Residents or hired contractors working in the city are also bound by the contract to use Jim’s Mille Lacs Disposal for dumpsters or roll-off containers.

Jim’s Mille Lacs Disposal works with businesses to determine the size of container needed and the frequency of pick up. Recycling containers are also available to businesses.

Onamia Service Center recycles the following:

  • Tires (fees apply).
  • Vehicle Batteries.
  • Motor Oil.
  • Antifreeze.

Drop off during business hours only.

Agnew Hardware Hank recycles:

  • CFL and other florescent light bulbs.
  • HID and Mercury Vapor bulbs (there is a small fee per bulb).
  • Rechargeable batteries for phones, tools, etc.
  • Paints, stains, varnishes and polyurethanes.
  • TVs, Computers, Monitors and other electronics (fees apply).
